Lean Manufacturing Engineer

Key Focus

This position will set up, start and manage our Manufacturing Department.  We are looking for experience and depth to establish and grow this department.  Engineering work is needed to analyze, optimize and continually improve our products, processes and costs to ensure a highly efficient manufacturing environment.  This position will establish, maintain and document standards and processes while supporting continuous improvement initiatives and new product introductions.  Join a young, values-driven. company that is working to bring the best small wind turbine and products to a rapidly expanding market.

This position will work under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer.

Primary Responsibilities

• Develop and champion Lean manufacturing practices throughout the operations organization.  This includes extensive use of KanBans, customer pull-flow systems, minimizing WIP and inventory levels, standardization and maintaining 5S initiatives.
• Manage the implementation of new product design while working with the R&D Team. 
• Development of production personnel.
• Recommend and implement improvements in production processes, methods and controls.
• Develop and maintain written product and process manufacturing instructions.
• Design and initiate process changes to improve quality, throughput and capacity.
• Provide equipment and process flow layouts to incorporate new processes and products while optimizing throughput, capacity and speed.
• Participate in quality initiatives and corrective actions as they pertain to the operations functions.
• Utilize Microsoft Business Solutions Great Plains to maintain BOM and Routings for products.

Qualifications

• 4-year engineering degree with 5 years manufacturing engineering experience required.
• Extensive experience and understanding of Lean manufacturing practices.
• Management experience required.
• Experience and ability to design, and hands-on fabrication of, tooling, jigs and support equipment.
• Knowledge of mechanical equipment machines and processes.
• Utilize company-wide manufacturing system to maintain product information.  Experience with Microsoft Great Plains application a plus.
• Strong Computer skills including Project Management Skills
• Working knowledge of Solid Works 3D modeling program
• Develop and maintain work and process instructions
• Utilize spreadsheets and databases for collecting and processing operational information
