Purchasing/Supply Chain Manager
Key Focus
The primary responsibilities of the Purchasing/Supply
Chain Manager is to establish our purchasing and
supply chain systems and relationships. We’re
looking for a candidate that has the versatility
to do all of the detail work in shipping, receiving
and inventory management, with the experience to
manage the department as the company grows. We
are looking to design, develop, and implement strategies,
processes, and procedures that will result in quality
customer service, cost savings, and effective inventory
management. This position will be responsible
for creating and managing a high performance team
for a Lean Supply Chain, which includes the functions
of sourcing, purchasing and receiving manufacturing
materials, components and supplies, inventory planning
and control, and order fulfillment.
The Supply Chain Manager reports to the Chief Operating
Officer with management responsibility for the purchasing
and supply chain group. This person works in partnership
with the team to address business challenges and
achieve goals that are in line with the company strategic
plan.
Primary Job Responsibilities
- Create and manage a strategic sourcing plan by
seeing the big picture and sweating the details.
- Develop and manage supplier and outsourcing relationships
to assure high quality, reliable supply, flexible
delivery, and competitive pricing utilizing single
source relationships and a pay from PO strategy.
- Work with both design engineering, the supplier
and the Lean Manufacturing Manager in the introduction
of new products to ensure that robust, capable
and effective processes are in place.
- Manage the Order Fulfillment process to assure
accurate, on-time, and cost-effective delivery
of product to our customers.
- Assure KanBan and re-order levels are set appropriately
to support Lean delivery of material.
- Work with the Manufacturing Manager to define
storage and layout requirements for raw material
and finished goods.
- Lead the Purchasing and Supply Chain team in
implementation of Lean philosophies in order to
continuously improve processes and procedures using
root cause corrective action.
- Manage supplier development projects and improvement
initiatives with the supplier using Lean.
- Represent the Supply Chain on the Corrective
Action team, and assure follow through on assigned
items.
- Coordinate new product sourcing and introduction
with Engineering.
- Provide expertise in eEnterprise Item Master,
BOM, Purchasing, Planning, and Inventory Control.
- Fill the requirements of a purchasing agent by
placing orders, negotiating contracts, and keeping
impeccable files. Communicate daily with
suppliers and manufacturing.
Qualifications
- A technical, preferably mechanical engineering,
degree with experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills. Extremely
organized.
- Experience in Lean Manufacturing and system thinking.
- Ability to work in a start-up that has a fun,
crazy, rapidly shifting, fast-paced environment.
- Ability to collaborate with other departments
and to successfully develop teams
- Experience with purchasing, inventory management,
BOM, and manufacturing management modules of enterprise
software systems; Great Plains experience is a
plus.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications a
must.
