Is Wind for Me?
There are a few criteria that determine whether
a residence is a good candidate for wind power.
- The
homeowner should have a property of one acre or more.
- The
location should experience a 10 mph average wind speed.
- The
customer should pay at least 10 cents per kilowatt hour
(kWh) for electricity.

It is estimated that there are 15 million homes with the potential to
install a small wind turbine.
Federal regulations require utilities to connect with and
purchase power from small wind energy systems. States with
net metering programs are best suited for residential wind
turbines. Net metering allows customers to use their generation
to offset their consumption over the entire billing period,
not just instantaneously. In effect net metering allows the
interconnected customer to use the electrical grid as a storage
battery.
